Lenin by Ivan Bilibin
Ivan Bilibin, a Russian Art Nouveau illustrator, lived from 1876 to 1942, born near St. Petersburg, Russia. He attended art school in Munich from 1898 to 1901, where he was inspired by the artists of the Art Nouveau movement. Bilibin’s artistic style was also influenced by Russian artist Ilya Repin, Slavic folklore, and traditional Japanese woodblock prints.
The Gang & John by Joe Martin (1985)
Commissioned by friends of John Nelson who lived in Lake Geneva and were friendly with Joe Martin. In celebration of Mr. Nelson’s 40th birthday, the piece depicts John (center) surrounded by cartoon characters from Martin’s comic strips. Joe Martin is known for long running comic strips including “Mister Boffo”, “Porterfield”, “Willy ‘N Ethel” and “Cats With Hands”. John Nelson was an uncle to the owners of the Stuga.
